Overview:

Nestled in the picturesque Sahyadri range (Western Ghats) at an altitude of approximately 3,000 feet, Saputara is the only hill station in the state of Gujarat. Translated literally as the "Abode of Serpents," this quaint, scenic destination is deeply rooted in the culture of the native Dangi tribes, who worship the snake deity along the banks of the Sarpagana River.

Unlike commercialized hill stations, Saputara retains a raw, unspoiled charm. The region boasts lush green forests, undulating mountains, sparkling waterfalls, and winding roads that make it a perfect escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Whether enveloped in the thick, dramatic mists of the monsoon or the crisp, cool air of winter, a trekking camp in Saputara offers a refreshing break from the monotony of city life.

Highlights

A trek in Saputara is an enchanting mix of natural beauty and cultural immersion. The prime highlight is the hike up to Governor’s Hill and Hatgad Fort, which offers panoramic, bird’s-eye views of the sprawling Dang forest and the neighboring state of Maharashtra. Trekkers also get to witness spectacular dawn and dusk colors at the dedicated Sunrise and Sunset Points, making for unforgettable photography opportunities.

Another major highlight is the magnificent Gira Waterfall, especially glorious during the monsoon season when it cascades fiercely through the lush green backdrop. Beyond the trails, participants can enjoy a serene boat ride on the man-made Saputara Lake, explore the vibrant flora at the Step Garden and Rose Garden, and dive into the indigenous Adivasi heritage at the Saputara Tribal Museum.
